Originally published in 1830, the Book of Mormon is an ancient record of the peoples of the Americas. It was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith through the power of God. The ancient prophet Mormon compiled the texts of his people into this record, which was hid in the earth by his son Moroni before his people were destroyed by their enemies. Within its pages is found the pure gospel of Jesus Christ, with many plain and precious truths restored. It is the key religious text, used alongside the Bible, of the Restorationist movement known as colloquially as "Mormonism" and practiced primarily by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This edition features 61 illustrations completed by Godwin, a Latter-day Saint illustrator living in the United Kingdom. His style focuses on symbolism and draws from the techniques of renaissance and early modern artists across Europe. These illustrations bring the stories and doctrines of the Book of Mormon to life in a new and captivating way. Godwin's goal is to invite readers to engage with the text anew, whether or not they have studied its incredible doctrines and teachings before.

The chapter format was another interesting way of reading the book, much more story like. Illustrations in black and white are reminiscent of engravings and woodblock printing of long ago. Is a wonderful new addition to my gospel library.

The illustrations and formatting of this version of The Book of Mormon are amazing. The artist captures the stories in a classic style highlighting the sacredness of the text. The traditional paragraph style of the text has is unique for modern scripture readers and will bring you additional insight. Not only that, but the artist also sells individual prints of the art in the book, which is great. I highly recommend to anyone who loves the convergence of sacred art and scripture.
