This design commemorates the 1846 - 1847 pioneer trek when members of the Church of Jesus Christ, led by their prophet Brigham Young left Illiinois, crossed Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming, and entered what is now Utah. Later 30,000 additional religious exiles arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in covered wagons, pulling handcarts, or walking.
